Thompson, Polk trio part of Region 8 softball squad

Polk County High School head softball coach Jamie Thompson will lead the Region 8 squad into competition this week at the North Carolina State Games.

Thompson’s team, comprised of players from throughout Western North Carolina, will begin pool play on Tuesday morning against Region 5. Pool play will continue through Wednesday morning, with the semifinals and finals set to be played Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Pool play will be held at Carolyn Allen Park in Greensboro, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Thompson’s squad includes three Polk County players – Anna McFadden, Alana Jergenson and Morgan Stott.

Also competing are Madison’s Alex Nix; North Buncombe’s Elizabeth Rice; Pisgah’s Maci Henson and Maggie McCracken; T.C. Roberson’s Megan McCracken and Madison Dillner; Robbinsville’s Sydney Farley; and East Rutherford’s Crennan Davis and Breonna Twitty.

Pisgah’s Heidi Morgan is serving as the team’s assistant coach.
