Summer Sizzler arts and craft camp sessions start July 9

Tryon Arts & Crafts School’s Summer Sizzler youth camp starts July 9 and has four one-week camp sessions at the school, at 373 Harmon Field Road, where young campers learn eight or more different crafts like pottery, fused glass, blacksmithing, jewelry making, storytelling and new this year, drama [with Kai Elijah Hamilton], tie dye, leatherwork, wax painting, sculpture, basketry, woodworking, weaving, origami, bookmaking and sculpture with recycled plastic.

Campers work with professional grade tools in studios as they complete their projects.

The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a lunch break, and the first week of this year’s program, July 9-13, will be for children 8-9 years old.

The sessions for the balance of the weeks: week 2: July 16-20; week 3: July 23-27; and week 4: July 30 – Aug. 3; are for youth 10 and up.

Students are asked to bring a lunch, snack and a drink, and to wear clothing that they do not have to worry about getting dirty.

Each Friday, students display their artwork and present a gallery show from 4 to 5 p.m. that is open to friends and family.

Advanced registration is required. Class size is limited.  Weeks one and two are already sold out.

Tryon Arts & Crafts School office hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
