Who knew that being a blood donor was good for your health?

Certainly, donating blood makes one feel good to help others who need the gift of life, but health benefits of donating blood include reduced risk of cancer and a reduced risk of damage to the liver and pancreas. Donating blood may also help in improving cardiovascular health and reducing obesity as well.

For those receiving blood donations, it can help in treating cancer, bleeding disorders, chronic anemia associated with cancer, sickle cell anemia and other hereditary blood disorders.

To help others and feel good about it, please be a donor during St. Luke’s Hospital’s blood drive Thursday, March 8. The Blood Connection’s mobile unit will be located on the MRI pad at the hospital from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All donors will be rewarded with a $10 gift card to Walmart.

Donors should bring a donor card or photo ID. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 864-751-1154 or 828-894-0972.
