The 14th annual Kirby Cup Soccer Camp is scheduled to take place Tuesday, June 19, through Saturday, June 23, at Harmon Field in Tryon.
This grant-funded, free event for boys and girls in third through eighth (ages 8 to 13) has been applied for from the Kirby Harmon Field Fund at the Polk County Community Foundation.
Applications will be available April 20 at the town halls in Tryon, Columbus, and Saluda, as well as at Polk County Middle School and Polk Recreation soccer games. Submission deadline is May 18.
The mission of the camp is to teach fundamental soccer skills, and create a global awareness by exploring other countries’ heritages.
This year, players will be divided into four teams, representing countries from the Americas that qualified for the World Cup: Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina and Uruguay. Each day, players will learn about the country, and then train in their style of play.
The camp ends with a round robin tournament and picnic on Saturday.
Enrollment is limited to 80 players on a first come-first serve basis, so parents are encouraged to register their children as early as possible.
