When a discus soared at a Landrum High School track and field meet, chances were high that it flew from the hand of the Cardinals’ Morgan Cameron-Decker, who just signed her intent on May 4 to attend Columbia College in Columbia, S.C. on a scholarship.

“She’s worked very hard,” said LHS women’s head coach and throwing head coach Scott Aughtry. “She can make us laugh. I’m going to miss her next year.”

Cameron-Decker recently set a school record with a discus throw of 113 feet.

At Columbia, she’ll be studying psychology and music. She has performed in the marching band for six years.

As for the chance to perform on the college level, “it was a surprise, actually,” Cameron-Decker admitted. “I wasn’t planning on it.”

While Cameron-Decker said she has followed no role models, she hopes her own dedication can make her a role model for others.
