LANDRUM – Chesnee’s women’s varsity came to Landrum on Friday evening, Jan. 27, and played a pretty good basketball game. The Eagles’ main problem was that the Cardinals played a good deal better, winning, 67-46.
Ellen Boatwright hit both shots from the foul line to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead, and at the end of the first quarter, the hosts led, 24-14.
Going into this evening’s game against visiting St. Joseph’s, the Cardinals are 17-2 overall, and 6-1 in region play.
Tonight’s tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
Lindsey Hardin’s 21 points led all scorers. Hardin popped her two threes in the first quarter, to help propel the winners. Cardinal teammate Kaylee Huntley added 14, with Sara Price (13), Bailey Butler (eight), Rachel Lanford (five), Sarah Harris and Boatwright (four each) making things rough on the Eagles.
The win wasn’t pretty at times, but the Cardinals cleared the boards better than did the Eagles, and added their usual unrelenting defense. After a cool spell at the net, Landrum got hot again near the end, with a 21-14 final period.
