Polk sheriff’s office arrests Green Creek man wanted for attempted murder in SC

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Green Creek man last week
who was wanted on attempted murder charges out of Cherokee County, S.C.
Matthew Bryant Martin, 26, of 758 Sandy Springs Rd. in Green Creek, was arrested on Aug. 25 by Polk County officers, according to Polk County Sheriff Donald Hill.
Martin is on Polk County’s sex offender registry and Hill said when the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office contacted his office they located Martin. Martin had his first appearance in Polk County District Court on the Cherokee County charge on Sept. 26.
There were no details available as of press time regarding Martin’s alleged attempted murder charge in South Carolina.
Hill said as of this week Martin was still being held in Polk County under a $300,000 bond awaiting extradition to Cherokee County.
Martin is on the sex offender registry for two convictions, according to the state of North Carolina’s sex offender registry through the state department of public safety.
Martin was convicted of sexual battery of a 15-year-old in 2011 in Rutherford County, according to the state’s registry.
Martin was also convicted in Polk County in 2012 on charges of attempted rape or attempted sex offense, according to the state’s registry.
