Polk endures softball loss to W. Henderson

Polk County’s softball team endured one of those games, when West Henderson outhit the Wolverines and took an 8-2 win at Columbus on Thursday, April 7.

The non-conference loss dropped Polk to 7-4 overall. The Wolverines remain 3-2 in the Western Highlands Conference, both losses coming to Madison.

Polk coach Billy Alm noted that the Falcons’ pitcher changed speeds effectively, and added, “They hit everything we threw up there. Errors killed us though.”

Polk will have to wait until its next game, April 19, at Avery County to avenge Thursday’s loss.

Polk’s game scheduled for Friday, April 8 at Mountain Heritage was postponed due to weather conditions.

On April 7, West Henderson outhit the Wolverines 13-4 and built a steady lead, scoring two in the first inning; one in the second; two more in the fourth; and three in the sixth, while Polk’s two runs came in the fifth.
