India Godlock placed fifth in a crowded field to capture all-state honors in Saturday’s (Nov. 7) state 2A cross-country championships, held at Beeson Park, Kernersville.

All times were slowed by wet, rainy conditions, noted Polk County coach Alan Peoples. He remarked that rain fell at Kernersville nearly all of Friday night, and again most of Saturday, leaving runners, coaches and spectators “soaked and covered with mud.”

Godlock’s 20:24 performance earned her all-state honors (given to the top ten runners).

The Wolverines Sean Doyle missed all-state honors by one place, finishing eleventh, running the course in 17:11.

Of Polk Country runners, only Godlock and Doyle qualified for states, by placing among the top four at regionals. Doyle had placed second there, just five seconds off the winning pace, while Godlock placed third.

Peoples had felt that Doyle would place among the top ten, but “it appears that he possibly peaked at Regionals.”
