Against Avery County, “We started fast,” understated Wolverine coach Lennox Charles. “We actually finished,” Charles noted, observing intense play from start to finish. After the Polk went ahead early, Charles told his players, We need to put this team away. We haven’t been able to do that.” In any case, as the Wolverines have often been slow starters, Charles welcomed the early scoring.

Will Rimer scored the Wolverines’ first two goals against Avery. Jeremy Allsbrook assisted on the first goal. Nate Smart’s assist set up Rimer’s second goal. Allsbrook also assisted on Polk’s third goal, booted in by Bradley Osborn. Polk’s fourth goal came on Allsbrook’s throw-in, a flick by Osborn, and Ben Deffner’s kick.

Play in the second half was fairly even.

Charles noted that the Wolverines have a good chance to tie for third in the conference, where Owen is undefeated, and Hendersonville has but one loss. Mountain Heritage is also in the running for third. Owen and Hendersonville were set to meet Monday (Oct. 13) evening.
