Senior citizens and other homebound subscribers in the Landrum area, will be a good deal more secure, after John Cleveland (JC) Alexander’s recent $1,000 contribution to the RUOK (Are You OK?) telephone reassurance program.
Alexander, a client of the program in Polk County, will be transferred to the Landrum program when it begins shortly. “It (the program) has worked wonderfully,” said Alexander, when he made his presentation to Landrum Council at its May13 meeting. “They follow up.”
Alexander said that his contact with Landrum’s Ann Regan who represents RUOK prompted him to donate. “I’m glad to do it, because it’s such a nice thing,” Alexander noted.
Currently calls to Landrum area residents come from the Columbus Police Dept., but will soon initiate from the Landrum Police Dept.
If an individual does not answer three calls, a report is issued, and emergency personnel are sent to that residence. Participation is free to Landrum residents.  For more information visit www.ruok.com
