The rain held off for a cleanup session on Saturday, April 19, long enough to make a significant difference.
The crew of Warren Board, Andy Haynes, Ron Pankey, John Vining and Kathy and Jim Wright (pictured at right) removed tree of heaven and other undesirable species from the corner near the Antique Mall on Highway 176.
“We removed a lot of vegetation in the hour and one half we worked. Years ago this area looked like a park on the way into Tryon. There are ornamental plantings from that time that are still living.” John Vining, N.C. County Extension Agent said. “We did not remove the poison ivy vines in the two large pine trees! They are about two inches in diameter. Like our last project, this shows again what a small number of people can do in a short time while working together.”
The Town of Tryon crews will remove the vegetation stacked along the highway.
The next session is May 17, when volunteers will clean and pressure wash Rogers Park.
