Wolverine softball starts with win

Last season, Polk County High School head softball coach Jeff Wilson’s team gave him his 300th win with the Wolverines.
On Thursday, Feb. 27 the Wolverines began where they left off, defeating the Asheville Trailblazers, 14-1.
Starting and winning pitcher Ashley Scruggs went four innings, fanned six, walked none and yielded just two hits, with no one scoring.
Polk got much of its offense from Hayley Kropp (three hits and a walk), Brittany Jones (three-for-three with a walk), Ashley Kropp (two hits), and Brandi Cordell, Alexis McCraw and Maddy Foy, who each struck key hits.
Kassidy Reynolds pitched an inning of relief for the winners yielding one run, but preserving the emphatic win.
Polk hosts Cherokee Tuesday, March 4, and Asheville on Wednesday, March 5.
The Wolverines visited East Henderson on Friday, Feb. 28 and will make their way to Brevard on March 11.
