Andrew T. Doig, age 88, a former resident of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Hilton Head, S.C., passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.
Born in Barrington, R.I., on September 29, 1921, Andy was the son of David and Isabel Doig. He was raised and educated in Tarrytown, N.Y., and received his bachelor of arts degree from Pace College.
On July 1, 1945, he married Ruth Grace Vachovetz. He provided a secure foundation for his family, a strong shoulder to lean on and a loving heart to rely on.
Andy spent 40 years working for the County Trust Company, where he became the senior vice president for operations of the bank and its 70 branches.
An outgoing and engaging individual, he reached out to others in every way possible: to establish friendships, to share a smile, and to help those in need. He always had a joke to brighten a persons day. Andy served as treasurer of numerous organizations, including the Yorktown Presbyterian Church, the Hilton Head Presbyterian Church and the Tryon Estates Computer Club. He was a 65-year member of the Masons. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons Bill of Carlsbad, Calif., Andy of Elkins, W.V.; daughter Ruth of North Salem, N.Y., 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Tryon Estates and St. Lukes hospital for their highly competent professionalism and for their extraordinary compassion in caring for Andy.
For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in his honor to ACTS Samaritan Fund at Tryon Estates, 621 Laurel Lake Dr, Columbus, N.C.
