Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Newton of Rutherfordton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 1. Mrs. Newton was the former Jeanette Yelton of Rutherfordton.

The couple have one son, Randy Newton and wife Tami, of Union, S.C, two daughters, Sharon Newton of Carolina Beach, N.C. and Sandra Francis and husband Andy, of Forest City, N.C. The Newtons also have four grandchildren, Hope, Kyle, Ashley and McKenna.
