The pose for a picture with Henson in between Zeke and his brother Mark was the end of an era for Landrum baseball.
For the first time since 2004, when Henson pencils in his lineup next season, there wont be a Rollins.
Rollins graduated on Friday night and has signed to play baseball at Limestone College next season, earning some scholarship money.
And Zeke has been a force in the Cardinals lineup since his freshman year in a 2005 campaign that culminated in a state championship.
Rollins hit .368 and had 19 RBIs that year in 68 at-bats.
After that, the hits just kept on coming. Rollins hit .388, .373 and .415 in 2006, 2007 an 2008 respectively.
The Cardinals won another state championship in 2007. Rollins also had 11 doubles, one triple and eight homers that season. He drove in 46 runs.
His strongest quality has been his consistency, Henson said. He is a great hitter who really doesnt have any weaknesses offensively.
The Cardinals won four region championships, three upper state championships and two state championships with Rollins in leftfield.
Limestone was an appealing choice for Rollins because of the outfield depth charts, Rollins said.
The Saints graduated three outfielders last season and will graduate three more after this season. Rollins will have ample opportunities to play in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
And then theres the proximity of the Limestone to his hometown.
Its close to home where everyone can come and see my games, he said.
Thats something that his parents, Beverly and Mike, are grateful for.
Playing at Limestone only 45 minutes away will be a blessing in that we can continue to support him and be there to cheer him on, his mom said. And of course with gas prices as they are, being close will help out.
There are plenty of things, however, that Rollins will miss he said.
Theres Hensons traditional pregame slide, the hometown fans and home games and the bus rides to and from away games, he said.
Limestone, however, will be getting a player with drive and determination, he said.
I work hard everyday, he said. Im a hardworker whos motivated to play.
