The Cardinals scored three more in the sixth. In that rally, Sikes raced home from third with run number six on this play, on an infield grounder.

Landrum was seeded number one in this tournament; Saluda fourth.

Cardinal pitcher Sydney Davis kept the Tigers mostly off balance with an assortment of blazing fastballs and deceptive off-speed offerings.

Saturday’s round two, also at Landrum, will feature the Cardinals against the winner of the Andrew Jackson/Newberry game. Game time is 6 p.m.
