In addition to promoting the Town of Tryon, sharing the success of the Tryon Beer Fest with the community is an important aspect for the organization. This year Big Brothers Big Sisters was designated as a charity recipient of a portion of proceeds from the 2014 Tryon Beer Fest.

Tryon Beer Festival is a sponsored event of Tryon Downtown Development, a non-profit organization that promotes design and economic development via innovative thinking, creative promotion and a celebratory attitude all combining to make our community unique.

Kim Nelson, graphic artist and co-owner of Skyuka Fine Art in downtown Tryon, has been on the planning committee since the festival’s inception.

Nelson said, “It delights me that a festivalgoer can sip on a craft brew from local/regional breweries, enjoy amazing food from local vendors, laugh with friends at your side and mountains in your view, all while tapping your toe to fantastic live music from start to finish. I’m so very proud to be a part of this community-centered event, and even prouder that we can give back to our community as a result.”

“The Tryon Beer Fest Planning Committee is pleased to support our local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters. They do excellent work not just in Tryon, but in our surrounding areas as well, areas where many of our festival attendees and loyal sponsors are from,” said Joe Pullara, event chairman of 2014 Tryon Beer Festival.

Big Brothers Big Sisters was chosen based on the positive impact of their mentoring programs for area youth. In their community-based program, volunteer mentors, the big brothers and big sisters develop friendships that help their little Brothers and little Sisters develop self-confidence, improve behavior and avoid risky behaviors. In the site-based program in local elementary schools, mentors help children with their assignments and encourage a positive attitude towards learning.
