On Saturday, April 12th the Tryon Parks Committee will be celebrating the official opening of the Vaughn Creek Greenway. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a dedication ceremony acknowledging the efforts of organizations, agencies and individuals who played a part in the public trail’s creation.

Started in October of 2005 as a dream of the Tryon Parks Committee the Vaughn Creek Greenway is a project that shows perseverance pays off when you have a good idea and lots of patience.
The new park area includes the property along one side of Vaughn Creek to include a total of 25 acres. This same property had been in the Smith Family’s possession for over 40 years and it remained untouched during those decades.
The area around the stream, particularly on the southern end of the trail looks as if it could be found in the higher elevations of Western North Carolina.
The public is invited to attend. Visitors are asked to park at the corner of New Market Road and Vaughn Street or next to Ziglar Field at the corner of East Howard and Vaughn streets. The event will occur rain or shine.
