Mayor Robert Briggs of Landrum proclaimed Jan. 14 as Miss Landrum Teen Recognition Day and Miss Landrum Recognition Day in honor of Makayla Stark and Jordyn Fox.

“I am honored to be the first representative for Miss Landrum Teen,” said Stark, Miss Landrum Teen. “My mother was raised here and we have attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. Thank you for such strong support.”

Fox has started college classes and could not attend the meeting on Jan. 14, but she and Stark invited the members of the Landrum City Council to a celebratory breakfast.

The young women will represent Landrum in state competition for educational scholarships in the Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant and the Miss South Carolina pageant, which in turn lead to Miss Teen America and Miss America pageants.

Proclamations extolled the pageants for promoting the creation, advancement and support of community service and educational opportunities for young women.

The Miss America program exists to provide personal and professional opportunities for young women to promote their voices in culture, politics and the community.
