Oreo

While visiting Landrum Vet on a different matter, I ran into a cute little 1 ½ year old female Boxer.

“She’s adorable,” I told Dr. Boone and the staff that was holding her. “She reminds me of my precious Allie.”

Upon hearing my praising her, she perked up from the confused look in her eyes and began the Boxer wiggle. “What’s her problem?” I asked with a huge smile on my face.

“She’s in trouble Lennie,” Dr. Boone said, “Some sort of blockage in her intestines and a very expensive operation is needed which her owners can’t afford.”

I leaned over and gave the girl a kiss. “Ask the owner to do what she can and my fund will pay the rest to help this little girl,” I concluded.

The next morning I received a call from God’s Creatures about a sweet pit mix that was struck by a car. I went down to meet Oreo, a 2-year-old female who needed the ball joint in her hip to be ground down and fitted back into the socket.

When I saw her she was recouping from the operation and was doing well. I told Dr. Jenny that Lennie’s fund would cover whatever the owners couldn’t pay. This time I learned that the owner took care of the whole bill himself and took the sweet little girl home. I tell this story because Oreo was rescued by her owner and it warms my heart when someone takes on the responsibility of one of God’s creatures, pun intended.

Later that day I went over to Landrum Vet to see how the sweet little Boxer was doing. I brought my camera so I could share her look with all of you. I was in a good mood and anxious to see the little girl again.

I went in to see Dr. Boone. “Hi Shaun, how’s that sweet little Boxer doing?” I asked.

“You don’t want to know Lennie” was his reply. My heart sank and the tear ducts began to fill.

“What happened doc?”

“She had a huge abscess,” he answered, visibly shaken himself. “She didn’t make it. She just wasn’t strong enough I guess.”

I went outside and sat on the bench and tearfully prayed. “Heavenly Father, I know in all things Your will be done but please give this weak old heart a few more victories before You call me home.”
