Republican David Guice is seeking a second term in North Carolina House District 113, which includes Polk County.
He filed for reelection last week.
“During the 2009 session of the North Carolina General Assembly, I tackled issues such as affordable housing for teachers and local employees in Transylvania County, protecting private property rights and stopping forced annexation, reducing government spending and making our public safety system safer for the people of North Carolina just to name a few,” Guice said in a statement announcing his filing. “The long session of 2009 was an historic time for all of us in North Carolina. We faced and continue to face a struggling economy, wasteful government spending and unwillingness by many elected officials to listen to the voices of the people.”
Guice narrowly edged his Democratic opponent Tom Thomas in the 2008 election by just 551 votes. The support Guice gained with wins in Polk County, including 69 percent of the vote in Coopers Gap precinct, and in southern Henderson County, helped give him 51 percent of the vote across the district. Thomas, a Brevard resident, won Transylvania County.
Guice, a former Transylvania County commissioner, worked for more than 30 years in the N.C. Department of Corrections, and has been a private business owner. If reelected, he said he plans to continue the work hes been doing for District 113.
“We owe it to the people to give our best effort on every issue that faces our state,” he said. “It is only by working together and placing partisan politics to the side that we will truly be able to create a strong and bright future for all people throughout our great state.”
