It’s tough being a right-brain in a left-brain world. When it comes to things working, I just want everything to work as it should, without falling apart, turning off, or blowing up. Is that asking too much, Dear Reader?

Yes. You know it is! Over the past months, my internet started going off every night at the same time. The phone company has tried to figure out why via phone, since technicians aren’t coming in residences due to virus concerns. So. I just keep paying the bill and hoping the issue will just go away. Someday. Then, the air conditioner wouldn’t cool, so that was a hassle…jingling thermostat, circuit breaker, then scratching noggin. Thank goodness for people like Tony Johnson who can fix things without jingling the thermostat and scratching noggin!

Then not long ago, I took ole Silver over the mountains and returned with a used Prius. In the glove box, there were two owner’s manuals: one entire inch-thick manual on navigation. I finally rolled over and begged for help—thank goodness for Prius expert friends out there.

Left-brain people just resemble a deer caught in headlights at all those garbled fine-print instructions / detailed diagrams as their brain squawks NO in marquee lights. (Former math teachers of yours truly could tell you about that look.)

My son always would tell me for the computer-blue-screen-of-death: “Mom, you can do this.” I’d look him straight in the eye and say “It’ll take me two weeks to do what you can do in one minute. Just HELP me—save a trip to the insane asylum!” (You left-brainers really think we right-brainers want to spend two weeks beating our heads against the wall trying to figure whatever-it-is out. No. We don’t.)

Let’s face it. We need each other in this world. I’ll probably always be the village idiot when it comes to tax forms, trigonometry and rocket science. But when it comes to baking a pie, creating a painting, writing a poem, words, making a garden, I’ll help out. All I can say is I sure appreciate minds from the left-brain too….

Saluda Historic Depot & Museum is open Thurs.-Sat. 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sun. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saluda Train Tales are canceled until September.

Good news: Thrifty Barn behind Saluda Center, 64 Greenville Street is open!

The Community Pop-up Pantry is open for drive-through each Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Saluda Presbyterian Church parking lot. Did you know our friends at the Pop-Up Pantry gave over 30 tons of food out over the first year of operation? Send donations to Church of the Transfiguration, designated for Pop-Up Pantry, 72 Charles Street, Saluda NC 28773.

The amphitheater project at McCreery Park is underway; the cost is about $33,000. This is a “citizen project” with no funding from the City of Saluda, and is under the auspices of Saluda Downtown Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit entity (donations are 100% tax deductible); if you’d like to help, make checks payable to Downtown Foundation- Amphitheater, P.O.
