Polk adds 8 cases this week

County’s count now at 63 and still 4 deaths

POLK COUNTY—Polk County added another 8 cases of the coronavirus, or COVID-19 this week .

The county did free testing on Wednesday for people with or without symptoms while supplies lasted at its drive-thru testing site.

Polk County health officials announced Wednesday it had another 5 cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 27 in the county.

The additional cases this week brings the total number of people who have tested positive in Polk County since March to 63. Of the total, 4 people in Polk County have died with the virus.

Of the total positive cases, 23 have been in the Saluda zip code with all 4 deaths in the Saluda zip code, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

There have been 17 positive cases in the Columbus zip code; 10 cases in the Tryon zip code and 16 in the Mill Spring zip code.

North Carolina as of Friday afternoon had 49,840 lab-confirmed cases of the virus, with 871 currently hospitalized patients. The state had completed 712,313 tests as of Friday.

Buncombe County had 484 cases and 35 deaths as of Friday; Henderson County had 480 cases and 48 deaths; Rutherford County had 234 cases and 7 deaths and Transylvania County had 18 cases and 1 death, according to the NCDHHS.
