Clean up expected to finish by the end of next week

TRYON—The Crandall home, once nestled across the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Walnut Street, has been torn down.

The home was in a serious state of disrepair; holes in the roof had allowed water to flow inside the house further damaging the structure. In the 2015 Google image, many holes in the roof and damage to the exterior of the home were clearly visible. The house had sat without significant improvement or repair until it had passed the point of no return. The Crandall home had once served as a focal point for the Town of Tryon for social events and community gatherings. Several items from the home have been pulled aside for salvage prior to the tear down; including several claw-foot tubs and building materials. 

The men on site from Pace Construction & Demolition said that they expected the clean up to be finished by the middle or end of next week. At the time, they were unaware of the property owner’s immediate plans for property after cleanup. 

As a former resident of Melrose Avenue, I can say with a heavy heart that it is sad to see another part of the history of Tryon and the Melrose community go.
