The Saluda Historic Depot is pleased to announce it has been awarded a Saluda Community Fund grant that will fund the replacement of a new roof and gutters on the Depot. In addition, the grant contributes to the replacement of a new HVAC system when needed. Showing support for the monthly event, Saluda Train Tales, the Polk County Community Foundation has become the exclusive sponsor of this popular event.

“Since this is an incentive grant, we will continue our outreach to raise funds for the museum from Saluda citizens and ongoing fundraisers,” says treasurer, Bruce Hunt.

“The Depot has become a cornerstone and a destination with more than 25,000 visitors over the last 3 years,” says Cathy Jackson. This success is due to the support from the Polk County Community Foundation and the citizens of Saluda”, says Cathy.

In March of 2015, a group of concerned citizens came together serendipitously to discuss the fate of Saluda’s Historic Depot, which was “for sale.” Out of this conversation grew a plan to “Save Saluda Depot” from commercial enterprises into a heritage museum and visitors center to honor and recognize Saluda’s origin and heritage. Since then, a non-profit 501(c)3 was formed and the depot was purchased in June 2016.

The depot and museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4:00 p.m. You are invited to visit the Depot and view interactive train models that will take you on a trip back in time when the railroads were our major mode of transportation.
