The town of Tryon, Harmon Field Board of Supervisors and Fans of Harmon Field held the ribbon cutting on site, with the Dallara Foundation presenting a $15,000 check for the playground. The Dallara Foundation presented a $5,000 check during its groundbreaking for the Dallara project at the baseball field last year.

Bill Cummings with the Dallara Foundation presented the $15,000 check Saturday, while children who worked to raise money for the playground through lemonade stands cut the ribbon.

The new playground was installed earlier this year to replace the 20-year old former playground.

Lindsay Lewis, with the Fans of Harmon Field thanked the community who supported the playground fundraising, the town of Tryon and the Dallara Foundation for their contributions and Henson’s Inc. for donating the mulch.

The town of Tryon contributed $50,000, the Dallara Foundation $20,000 and the Fans of Harmon Field contributed the remainder. Most of the new equipment was installed by PlayNation of WNC for a bid of $70,207.

Fans of Harmon Field has agreed to use its fundraising to maintain the new playground, including installing new mulch on an annual basis.

The new playground includes slides and activities for both younger and older children, Americans with Disabilities Act compliant swings, ride-on equipment, benches and an ADA compliant merry-go-round.
