Hopeless Causes?

I am currently reading a book about the American Revolution, “Almost a Miracle” by John Ferling.

Talk about your hopeless causes. Not long after the conclusion of the Seven Years War, Great Britain was the preeminent power in the world, not unlike the position of the United States after World War II. The American colonists were well aware of this and of the considerable economic disincentive to break from the established order.

But the leaders of the eventual revolution were students of the Enlightenment. They believed that they were free men, and that their rights as free men outweighed any oath of fealty, taken or implied. They persevered in that “lost cause,” ensuring for themselves and their fellow citizens the rights that some of us take for granted.

In his most recent letter, Mr. Milton Ready seems to be arguing that attacking President Donald Trump, the conservative media or the NRA are lost causes. Perhaps, but more importantly, they are wrong-headed causes. Despite continual vicious attacks by Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media, the president continues pushing ahead with his agenda.

The “fake news” Russia collusion story is, and has always been, a smokescreen to cover the corruption of the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton: “Fast and Furious,” the IRS scandal, Benghazi, the Clinton email server scandal and the use of FBI and DOJ administrators to protect Hillary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, and Barack Obama while attempting to smear Donald Trump and then cripple his presidency.

Attacks on the NRA are nothing new, part of leftist totalitarian ideology. Recent news, unfortunately, shows systemic problems in the FBI and local law enforcement which may have contributed to the recent tragic mass shootings.

Finally, Mr. Richard Day’s letter on March 7 provides more examples of the benefits to the economy of President Trump’s recent tax cut bill, adding to those I have previously written about. More evidence of the success of “trickle down” economics.

As admirable as Mother Teresa’s charitable works may have been, it is free-market capitalism that is the engine of prosperity and republicanism that is its guarantor. No other system has, or can, provide wealth, freedom and security.

P.S.: Breaking News: North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un has requested a meeting with President Trump to discuss denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Just another indication of the differences between the policies of Barack Obama and President Donald Trump.
