Published 5:55 pm Friday, September 1, 2017

The Tryon Depot at 22 Depot St. in Tryon will be featuring “New Paintings by The Thursday Painters” and the public is invited to the opening reception Friday, September 8, from 5-7 pm.

The Thursday Painters is a group of seriously playful watercolor artists who meet weekly at The Ferullo Fine Art Studio 140 Pacolet Street. They have been painting together since 2009, first meeting at the Introduction to Expressive Watercolor class at Isothermal Community College in Columbus.

Harriet Spencer

Led by Patricia Cole Ferullo, the group tackles a new painting challenge every few weeks, painting and honing their creative abilities to bring about exciting new paintings, based on their approach to the challenge presented. The emphasis is on creativity with limited palette and a variety of tools to move the paint around the paper, sometimes pouring, sometimes making marks with twigs or the back end of the brush or fingers. Each of these artists has developed a recognizable style of working adding to the excitement of the exhibit.
