Chamber music concert at Holy Cross

The beauty of strings and piano will be the next musical offering of the Bach’s Lunch Wednesdays at Noon Lenten Recital Series at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon on Wednesday, March 22 at noon. The Schumann Piano Quartet in E flat major, Opus 47, will be performed by John Malloy, violin; Jan Daugherty, viola; Kathleen Foster, cello; and Kymric Mahnke, piano.

These four musicians perform frequently in the area. Last fall, members of the ensemble performed in concert at Converse College, where Foster teaches cello.

In Maurice Hinson and Wesley Roberts’ work, The Piano in Chamber Ensemble, the Schumann Piano Quartet is described thus: “One of the most important works in the literature for this combination. Equal division of interest between the four instruments. Unsurpassed in romantic fervor and beauty.”
