Polk Fresh Foods merges with Sunny Creek Farm

Polk County Commissioners learned on Monday, Nov. 16 that Polk Fresh Foods is merging with Sunny Creek Farm and will no longer need grant funding from the county to operate. Polk Fresh Foods’ John Britton told commissioners that grant funding from the county approved this budget year will not be required. The merger will be called Green Creek Garden with Britton saying it will increase the customer base in Polk County and give the availability of a refrigerated truck. Britton said Polk Fresh Foods will also return any funding to Polk County that was unused from last year.

Polk clarifies Duke Energy’s intent to rebuild existing lines

During Polk County’s Nov. 16 meeting, county manager Marche Pittman clarified one of Duke Energy’s bullet points that they plan to rebuild existing transmission lines. Duke Energy announced recently that it would not build transmission lines through Polk County as part of its modernization plan. Pittman said he asked Duke’s Craig DeBrew to elaborate on what the company meant regarding rebuilding existing lines. Pittman said Duke plans to make upgrades to its existing 100 kv lines through Polk County, not the 40 kv lines. Duke’s 100 kv lines are located on approximately four miles within Polk County.

Tryon to hold public hearing restricting signs around Morris the horse

Tryon Town Council has scheduled a public hearing on Dec. 15 regarding an amendment to its zoning ordinance for signage around Morris. The town is proposing to prohibit any signs within a 10 ft. area of the town’s downtown statue.

Tryon reappoints Walters and Prioleau to planning board

Tryon Town Council during its Nov. 17 meeting reappointed members John Walter and Mary Prioleau to the planning board. More appointments are expected to be made during Tryon’s December meeting as other members’ term are expiring. Council also appointed Tryon commissioner Roy Miller to serve as the town’s non-voting member of TDDA (Tryon Downtown Development Association). Miller will replace former commissioner Happy McLeod who resigned council earlier this month.

Tryon Christmas Stroll and parade

Tryon Town Manager Joey Davis announced during the town’s November meeting that town’s Christmas Stroll is scheduled this year on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 4-8 p.m. The town’s Christmas parade will be on Wednesday, Dec. 9 with a rain date of Dec. 16. Tryon Town Hall will be closed next Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.
