Many households in the areas of Green Creek and Columbus outside fire districts could see changes in homeowners insurance in a few months after the fire departments requested a new inspection in hopes of lowering ISO ratings.

Michael Herman with the Green Creek Fire Department said homes within five road miles of station 1 or 2 could see a lower rating. Areas not affected in the Green Creek area include Pea Ridge Road, Coxe Road to the county line, including Green River Highlands, and part of John Watson and Ken Miller Road. Green Creek Fire district is currently rated as a 9 ISO. Ratings range from 1, the lowest, to 10.

Green Creek and Columbus fire departments requested to be re-rated, with the inspections occurring May 11-13, according to Polk County Emergency Management Director Bobby Arledge.

Arledge said the Columbus outside district is currently rated 9, with the inside district rated a 5.

The Columbus rating could change for homes within five road miles of the new fire substation in Columbus, located on Peniel Road. Arledge said anyone outside six miles from a fire station will always remain at a higher rating.

Polk will be informed of the new ratings in 120 days from May 13.
