Change This World packing party Nov. 10

Polk County High School senior Baileigh Fisher has set out to achieve something bigger than a passing grade on her senior project.

Fisher hopes, in addition, to help change the world by feeding third world countries.
Over the summer, Fisher went to Camp Caswell at Fort Caswell in Oak Island where the North Carolina Baptist Assembly occupies the site of a former Civil War fort. It was there Fisher learned about Change This World when she participated in helping to package more than 200,000 meals that were sent along with more than $65,000 to provide for families in Haiti.

“After that amazing experience, Baileigh fell in love with Haiti through videos and with helping the hungry. She wanted to bring that experience back to Polk County,” said Fisher’s senior project mentor Lori Lookadoo. “Her desire is to do as the Bible says and ‘feed the least of these.’”

Lookadoo said Fisher is very mission minded and will be accompanying a group to Haiti next summer to the house that Camp Caswell sends their packaged food.

Fisher will host a Change This World packing party at Midway Baptist Church on Nov. 10 from 4-6 p.m.

Fisher said her hope is to draw together the Polk County Community in efforts to impact the world through filling hungry stomachs in third world counties.

She said she plans to package 10,000 meals. Each meal costs 25 cents and she is asking for donations to raise the $2,500 it will take to put on the event.

Donations can be made through the website or at jars at Mountain View Barbecue, Karma Hair Salon and Wolverine Pizza.

Fisher also invites everyone who wants to participate in packaging the food to come to Midway Baptist Church, located off Hwy. 108 between Columbus and Mill Spring on Nov. 10.
