Cantrell passes away after accident at Green River Plantation

The dog died and Cantrell fell down an enbankment, landing up against a chain linked fence. He spent the day there, nearly covered up by leaves, making it hard for anyone to find him.

Amanda says the family realized something was wrong after Eugene did not return to the house as he always does for lunch. She says the only way anyone was able to find his location was by eventually spotting a bright umbrella in a tree near the enbankment.

Amanda says her father suffered complications from the hypothermia he experienced after spending the day outside in cold, rainy weather. She says he was struggling with kidney and liver failure and a complication with his leg. Amanda says family members thought they almost lost Eugene on Thursday night, but a pastor&squo;s prayer and encouragement from his wife Ellen revived him to the point where he gave a thumbs up to everyone. He was stable on Friday morning until he suffering another setback.
