Wynona Ormand Joye

Columbus, NC—Wynona Ormand Joye, 96, of Columbus, NC passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at her home. Wynona was the daughter of the late William A. and Lizzie Dedmond Ormand. She worked for 15 years as a secretary for the Polk County School System and later worked for Pace Electric as the office manager. She was a member of the Thermal Belt BPW club for professional women and was named the member of the year for her outstanding contributions. Wynona was a member of Columbus Presbyterian and served in many capacities over the years, serving as youth director, a Sunday School teacher, and assisting with Vacation Bible School. Later in life, Wynona started attending Tryon First Baptist Church virtually on Sundays.

Wynona was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Joye, and six siblings, Elaine Skipper, LaVon Ormand, Enola Hardin, Sara Upton, George Ormand, and Jean Sisk. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Fisher of Columbus, NC; and Annette Fisher Spain of Asheville, NC; two sons, Bruce Fisher of Columbus, NC, and Dave Fisher of Columbus, NC; eleven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one on the way and one great-great
grandchild.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Dr. Jeff Harris and Reverend Phillip Ashley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The burial will follow the service and will be held at Columbus Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
