Harden closes Polk career with top-15 finish at state 1A golf tourney

Avery Harden closed his Polk County golf career Tuesday with a top-15 finish at the 1A state golf tournament at Seven Lakes Golf Club in West End.

Persistent rain throughout the day cut the final round to nine holes. Harden had a 5-over-par 40 to finish the tourney tied for 12th.

Freshman Tourin Jackson had a 43 and finished tied for 38th while Myles Menetre also had a 43 and finished tied for 54th.

Mitchell’s Connor Warren won his third straight state 1A title, finishing three shots ahead of Langtree Charter’s Samuel Skoog. Warren and Skoog had matching 35s for the low round of the day.

Warren, a UNC Charlotte signee, also led the Mountaineers to their second straight team crown, with Mitchell finishing three strokes ahead of Mount Airy. Mountain Island Charter, Cornerstone Charter and Cherryville rounded out the top five.
