Weatherman and Boliek progress to November elections

COLUMBUS—Polk County voters took to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots in runoff elections for two remaining primary races, the Republican primary for lieutenant governor and the Republican primary for state auditor, determining which candidates will proceed to the general election in November.

If no candidate in the primary wins more than 30% of the vote, a second-place candidate can request a runoff.

State-wide results are in, with Hal Weatherman winning the lieutenant governor’s primary and David Boliek winning the state auditor’s primary. Weatherman will face Rachel Hunt (D) and Shannon Bray (L) in November, and Boliek will face incumbent Jessica Holmes (D) and Bob Drach (L).

Votes were counted at the Board of Elections Building located at 231 Ward St. in Columbus. Early voting for the runoff took place from April 25 through May 11. 

In Polk County, 35 votes went to Jim O’Neill, and 349 went to Hal Weatherman. For the state auditor, 134 votes went to Dave Boliek, and 227 went to Jack Clark. 

This year, Election Day will fall on Tuesday, November 5.
