The Board of Directors for the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation, Inc., recently announced the recipient of the 2024 Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar Award. This $10,000 renewable scholarship totals $40,000 and is awarded to a Polk County High School student who is a strong, well-rounded individual and one who excels in a specific area of study. The student also demonstrates a commitment to helping others and participates in school clubs and extracurricular activities.  The scholarship is awarded by the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation and is administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.

Cora Lawrence is the 2024 recipient of the Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar Award. Cora is an honor student at Polk County High School. As a senior, she is a leader of the Culture Club, where they explore different characteristics and cultures from various countries. She is also a member of the Key and HOSA Clubs. Cora stays active by running long distances in Track and Field and by doing volunteer work, including helping with events in the community such as Walk of Remembrance and New Year’s Day. She also coaches two little league soccer teams and works as a YMCA camp counselor in the summer.

Cora’s ambition is to work in the healthcare field, so she will pursue a bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She has started this process by attaining her CNA certification through Polk County High School. Cora is the daughter of Karen Lawrence of Columbus and the late Justin Lawrence.
