A five-run sixth inning helped Chase rally Wednesday for a 9-5 victory over Polk County in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference game at The Bottoms.

In the completion of a game begun Tuesday before being halted by stormy weather, the Wolverines (8-13, 2-9) returned and put together a five-run second inning, surging to a 5-2 lead.

Back in the lineup following an injury, Avrey Hensley opened the inning with a double, moving to third on Mason Beiler’s single. Cohen Edwards then delivered an RBI base hit to make it 2-1.

Senior Alex Tipton, sidelined for the season by an injury, then made his first plate appearance of the season, dropping a sacrifice bunt to move runners to second and third. Mark Jarrett’s grounder scored Beiler, and Gunnar Alm’s single brought home courtesy runner Nick Sotomayor to make it 3-2.

An error during Alex Perry’s at-bat allowed both Jarrett and Alm to score, putting the Wolverines up by three.

Chase (10-10, 5-6) added two runs in the fifth inning, then took advantage of Polk County miscues – a hit batter, a walk and three errors – in the sixth to take the lead.

Beiler finished 2-for-3 to lead Polk at the plate, with Alm, Hensley, Edwards and Jarrett all adding base hits.

The teams are scheduled to meet Thursday at Chase in the final conference game of the season for both schools.
