The American Contract Bridge League honors top achievers across the country with “Ace of Clubs” awards, given each year to those players who earn the most masterpoints at Club-level games. Two of the 2023 awards in Western North Carolina went to Tom Adkins and Jeff Vargo, regulars at both the Foothills Club of Tryon and the Saluda Mountain Club. 

The awards were announced before a Tryon game on Friday, April 26, and accompanied, deliciously, by a theme-appropriate cake, designed by Hope Hix of the Columbus Food Lion.

Adkins also won a 2023 Mini-McKinney medal for masterpoints accumulated at all levels of competitive bridge.
