Polk County’s 8U softball team, playing in the Landrum Youth Association league, recently earned praise for its sportsmanship.

The team always tries to give something to an opposing player as recognition for good play or attitude. That gesture recently brought the following note from Whitney Tucker, the parent of an opposing player:

“I’ve never seen a golden ball for sportsmanship given, and by the other team’s coach no less. But our girl played first base and was telling everyone that got on base good job.

“The other team’s coaches noticed and recognized her before the handshake line! What a cool gesture from Polk County 8u girls softball. It brought me to tears in the car on the way home.”
