The electricity failed Wednesday evening at The Bottoms. Erwin’s power did not.
The Warriors rapped out 12 hits, most of those in a 10-run fourth inning that keyed a 14-1 victory over Polk County in a non-conference matchup.
Nick Schultz, a Wake Tech commit, homered to center field to cap the fourth-inning outburst. Schultz finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, one of four Erwin (4-3) players with two or more hits.
Polk County (6-3) scored its lone run in the first as Noah Harden singled and scored on Konnor Scruggs’ double.
Those were two of Polk’s three hits in the game, but they stopped after the fourth inning due to the electrical issues and fading light. Alex Perry also had a base hit for the Wolverines.
Polk County is set to host Patton on Thursday. If the electrical issues are resolved, then games will follow the usual schedule of junior varsity at 4 p.m. and varsity to follow. Otherwise, school officials said the varsity game would likely be played first.
