TRYON—The “luck o’ the Irish” was on full display Sunday for the third annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Tryon. This year, the parade route was expanded along Trade Street from Rogers Park all the way to McCown Street, so parade-goers would have more frontage to enjoy the entertainment.

The parade featured local bagpipers Kevin and Brendan Sprouls, American Legion Post 250, Tryon and Columbus fire departments, and floats from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 9492, and Steps to HOPE. Parade Princess Kate Dow and ‘Her Court of Irish Lasses’ were also on hand, as was “St. Patrick” himself.

The festivities also included performances from the Carpenter Academy of Irish Dance and English Theatre Arts Dance Company, as well as local fiddlers who accompanied leprechaun Mike McEntee and his little leprechauns.

Local dog owners were also invited to bring their well-behaved “Paddy Pooches” dressed in their Irish finest. The winner of the Best Dog Costume received a $100 gift certificate from the Back Alley Boutique and Bud Bar.

Once the parade ended, Irish entertainment was held in front of Tryon’s clock tower. Additionally, participants from Little Detroit Car Club, Transylvania Cruisers Car Club and Great Smoky Mountains Region Car Club were parked along McCown Street to give paradegoers the chance to see the vintage roadsters.

The sponsors of the event were The Knights of Columbus Council 9492, Suzanne Devane of Asheville Realty Group, MDB Counseling Services, The Back Alley Boutique and Bud Bar and the Tryon Downtown Development Association.
