Vehicle overturns in fatal crash near Saluda exit 

 

SALUDA—A Tennessee man has died after a single motor-vehicle accident occurred on I-26 East on Tuesday, March 12.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the wreck happened at approximately 2 p.m. near Exit 54, when the driver attempted to correct himself after running off the road. As the vehicle began to overturn, the driver, identified as Daniel Claeys, 68 of Knoxville, Tenn., was ejected from the vehicle. 

Claeys was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The eastbound lanes were closed to traffic while officials cleared the wreckage and were reopened approximately two hours later.
