SALUDA—A culinary event at the Orchard Inn in Saluda on March 14 will help fund Saluda Sister City, a local organization that works to connect Saluda residents with the citizens and culture of Carunchio, Italy.

The chef at Orchard Inn has partnered with Saluda’s Sister City to create a menu that will make you ready to buy a ticket to Italy. The menu travels around four regions of Italy, selecting a classic dish from each area to create a four-course dinner.

The Mountain Page Players have a repertoire of Italian classic songs that will entertain the diners before and between courses and there will even be a sing-along with a few fun tunes everyone knows. Can you say, “Funiculi, funicula?”

The ‘Italian Regional Culinary Adventure’ begins with the Aperol Spritzer, an Italian aperitif that has become popular all over Europe. Each of the courses is paired with a glass of the perfect wine specially selected to complement the dish. The appetizer from Capri celebrates its seafood heritage with Oysters Al Fiorno. Then, Saluda’s Sister City in the region of Abruzzo has contributed a black truffle sauce that will be used to create Parmesan Risotto a la Tartufo Nero (Black Truffle).

The main course features Milan’s Ossobuco alla Milanese paired with herbed polenta, and from the Piedmont comes dessert, Espresso Panna Cotta with house-made biscotti.

As the music continues, the evening will be topped off with a glass of Limoncello made by Saluda Sister City.

“The event not only helps to support a local business during the slower winter months, but 25% of the profit comes to Saluda Sister City to support our programs with the children of Saluda and Carunchio and our efforts to bring a broader understanding of different cultures to our area,” says Judy Thompson, chair of Saluda Sister City.

The fun begins on Thursday, March 14 at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call 828-749-5471. Boun Apetito!
