Tryon International Film Festival has announced an evening event in Spartanburg on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 6  to 9 p.m.. The event, known as the SC Shorts Showcase, aims to reach out to the neighboring community of Spartanburg and provide a glimpse of TRIFF’s offerings by featuring local filmmakers from the region.

The SC Shorts Showcase will be held at the Chapman Cultural Center Theatre, located at 200 E. St. John St. in Spartanburg. The event will kick off with a cocktail hour from 6 to 7 p.m., featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with the staff of TRIFF, as well as directors, producers, and actors of select short films. From 7 to 9 p.m., guests will enjoy a screening of short films from TRIFF events, including:

  • “Four Pies” directed by Andrew Huggins, a heartfelt story about a woman returning home to her family after her mother’s death.
  • “For Paloma” directed by Suraj Savkoor, which follows a mother coming to terms with her newborn daughter’s traumatic birth diagnosis.
  • “Babygirl” directed by Geoffrey Gunn, a touching tale of a grandfather trying to reconnect with his granddaughter.
  • “Two Peas in a Pod” directed by Collins Abbott White, a story of an estranged family reuniting after an accident.
  • “A.B.” directed by Eugene Rocco Utley, an interview-style film capturing the life of a young struggling artist.
  • “Common as Red” directed by Robbie Robertson, exploring the aftermath of an emotional funeral for an intersex infant.

Additionally, guests will enjoy a sneak peek of a new music-comedy by Chris White, writer-director of “Electric Jesus,” a co-production of Greenville-based companies Studio Fifteen and Cargo.
