POLK COUNTY—Unofficial results are in after the primary elections were held for federal, state and local offices on Tuesday.

Locally, in the Polk County Board of Commissioners Republican primary, Myron Yoder got the most votes with 2,139, followed by Jennifer Hargett with 1,981 votes, Paul Beiler with 1,867 votes and Chris Jones with 1,446 votes.

In the presidential primaries, President Joe Biden won North Carolina and received 1,224 votes in Polk County, or 89% of the Democratic vote. Former President Donald Trump received 73% of the Republican vote in Polk, with 2,636, and won the state. Former Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley received 883 votes in the county.

Attorney General Josh Stein will be the Democratic nominee for N.C. governor in November, and he received 972 votes, or 72% of the vote, in Polk. Tryon’s Chrelle Booker received 201 votes in Polk, and roughly 7% of the Democratic vote for governor statewide. Republican Mark Robinson will face Stein in the general election—locally, he received 2,512 votes, or 75% of the Republican vote.

In the U.S. House of Representatives District 14 races, Pam Genant got 70% of the Democratic vote in Polk County, with Tim Moore receiving 69% of the Republican vote. Republican Chuck Edwards got 704 votes in Polk County, or 66% of the Republican vote for U.S. House of Representatives District 11.

Polk County is part of both congressional districts.

Of 16,440 registered voters in the county, 5,001 cast ballots in the primaries. Vote totals and winners for the 2024 primary election will be declared officially on Friday, March 15.

Polk County primary vote tallies for other state races, which include early and absentee ballots cast, are as follows:

  • Lieutenant Governor: 1,031 votes, or 78% of the vote for Rachel Hunt (D), and 834 votes, or 28% of the vote for Hal Weatherman (R).
  • Attorney General: 856 votes, or 66% of the vote for Jeff Jackson (D).
  • Commissioner of Insurance: 867 votes, or 68% of the vote for Natasha Marcus (D), and 1,560 votes, or 56% percent of the vote for Mike Causey (R).
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction: 774 votes, or 60% of the vote for Maurice Green (D), and 1,835 votes, or 64% of the vote for Michele Morrow (R).
  • Treasurer: 816 votes, or 65% of the vote for Wesley Harris (D), and 1,073 votes, or 38% of the vote for A.J. Daoud (R).
  • Supreme Court Justice S6: 999 votes, or 78% of the vote for Allison Riggs (D).
  • Auditor: 1,006 votes, or 36% of the vote for Charles Dingee (R).
  • Commissioner of Agriculture: 1,516 votes, or 52% of the vote for Steve Troxler (R).
  • Commissioner of Labor: 1,560 votes, or 56% of the vote for Luke Farley (R).
  • Secretary of State: 1,413 votes, or 49% of the vote for Christine E. Villa Verde (R).
  • Appeals Judge S15: 1,979 votes, or 70% of the vote for Chris Freeman (R).
