Thirty-two new teachers in Polk and Rutherford Counties found a surprise in their teacher boxes on Valentine’s Day. Members of the Gamma Beta Chapter of DKG International filled Valentine’s bags with candy and teacher supplies to show support for early career educators and to make new teachers aware of the many opportunities for DKG members.

Opportunities for members include mentorship for new teachers, leadership training and development, financial assistance for continuing education in the form of scholarships and grants, travel and networking with Chapters in 17 countries and five geographic regions, recognition of advanced scholarship, advocacy for educational excellence, and publishing.

Gamma Beta Chapter of Rutherford and Polk counties meet quarterly for regular business meetings and professional growth and development. State, national and international conventions are held on alternating years, which offer a variety of Professional Development and Leadership Training. President of the local chapter, Jacqueline Brown-Williams (retired educator in Polk County) will present a workshop/seminar on Grant Writing at the state convention in April.

For more information or to inquire about membership, contact Dr. Lindsey Harmon Walker, Elementary principal at Cherokee Charter Academy, at or Jacqueline Brown-Williams at
