The Tryon Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Lockhart Rd. on February 17 around 9:30 a.m., after receiving two distress calls.

“We received two calls on the matter. One was at 9:28 a.m. for a person down/unknown problem. The description that was given to us was that it was a woman saying ‘Please help me,’” said Tryon Fire Department Public Information Officer Steven Siler. “A second call at 9:33 from a neighbor across the street advised that a tree had fallen on and through the house and that it was on the roadway as well.”

Firefighters arrived on the scene and confirmed a tree had fallen across the roof of a home, breaching the interior of the structure.

Crews became aware of a woman inside and forced entry into the home to locate her. The victim, whose name has not been released, was pinned by tree limbs and debris, and crews worked quickly to free her.

“Upon putting eyes on the homeowner, it was confirmed that the subject was indeed pinned by large tree limbs,” Siler said. “Crews worked quickly to remove surface debris from the subject.”

Once the victim was extricated from the home, she was transferred to Polk County EMS. It is unknown at this time if she suffered any injuries.

Assistance from Columbus Fire Department and Saluda Fire & Rescue was requested. Also on-scene were Polk County Emergency Management and Duke Energy.
