Tryon Little Theater is thrilled to announce its next big musical, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” The show will run on the big stage at the Tryon Fine Arts Center on Melrose Avenue in Tryon, March 1-3 and 8-10. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for those under 18.
This award-winning show earned Drama Desk Awards and Tony Awards, and in 1981 it won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical. Written by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall, the musical is based on King’s story inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch—a legendary brothel that operated in Texas from the 1840s to 1973.
It tells the story of one of the better-known pleasure palaces, Miss Mona’s cozy bordello, aka the Chicken Ranch, which governors, senators, mayors, and even victorious football teams frequent—until a crusading do-gooder radio commentator and his conservative audience shine the spotlight on the shenanigans and cause uproar in the small town of Gilbert.
The cast of seasoned actors is as follows: Janet Allison, Kip Arrowood, Ryan Barry, Ella Brown, Lou Buttino, Maggie Carter, Tim Daniels, Paula Edwards, Leisa Foronda, Victoria Foster, Cindy Kennedy, Luke Laughter, Don McKinney, Jennifer Monterisi, Preston Pyatt, Mark Sawyer, Holly Schockley, Zeke Smith, Hollie Swofford, PJ Thiessen, Elizabeth Turner, and Scott Waddell.
TIME magazine described this show as “spiced with delicate bawdry!” Directed by the talented Lori Lee, with musical direction by Pam McNeill, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” is sure to entertain. Mark your calendars, and visit tltinfo.org for tickets and more information.
